3 Set Controlling Admixtures
Specific set retarders (Sika Retarder) allow to apply the concrete as along as recommended. Different types of accelerators (Sika Rapid) controlling the high early strength development as well as
3.1 SIKATARD® R
SikaTard R is a liquid admixture developed for the control of cement hydration.
SikaTard R retards/stabilizes sand/cement masonry mortars and concrete mixes.
USE
SikaTard R is mainly used for the following applications:
- A wide range of applications where set retarding/stabilizing is requested
- In conjunction with Sikanol 118 to provide masonry mortars for laying brick/blocks manufactured from absorbent materials such as clay, sand-line and concrete.
CHARACTERISTICS AND ADVANTAGES
SikaTard R retards/stabilizes the hydration of the cement.
- Strong retardation/stabilizing to enable brick/block laying to continue over long periods of time
- Delays the set of the mortar, however the retarding/stabilizing effect declines once in place as moisture evaporates and migrates due to the suction of the brick/block enabling setting and curing to occur as normal

3.2 SIKARAPID®-1
SikaRapid-1 is a new generation hardening accelerator for concrete and mortar. It increases the early strengths of concrete without negatively influencing final strengths.
Suitable for use in tropical and hot climatic conditions.
USE
SikaRapid-1 is used in ready mix concrete plants where extremely high requirements for early strengths of between 6-24 hours have to be met.
SikaRapid-1 does not contain any chlorides and can therefore be used without any reservations for reinforced as well as pre-stressed concrete. However, it should not be used in combination with expanding or shrinkage compensating admixtures.
CHARACTERISTICS AND ADVANTAGES
SikaRapid-1 is normally used in combination with a superplasticizer. The addition of SikaRapid-1 does not change the positive properties (e.g. fluidifying, stiffening behavior etc.) of the superplasticizer.
Depending on the dosage of SikaRapid-1, an increase in early strengths during the first 24 hours of up to 100 % in comparison with normal Sikament concrete can be achieved. Depending on the brand of OPC/HPC used and the temperature of the fresh concrete, the effect may vary slightly.

4.9 PURIGO®-5 S

USE
Purigo-5 S is an efficient, economical product for use on concrete floors to prevent surface dusting from occurring. It will not however, make bad disintegrating concrete good.

5.3 SIKANOL® 118
Sikanol 118 is a two component plasticizing and stabilizing system which delays the set of sand/cement and cement/lime/sand mortars for extended periods while improving workability, reducing bleed water and improving frost resistance.

Sikanol 118 are used in conjunction to provide masonry mortars for laying bricks manufactured from absorbent materials such as clay, sand-lime and for concrete blocks.

Sika-CNI is a calcium nitrite-based admixture designed to inhibit the corrosion of steel in reinforced concrete.

CHARACTERISTICS AND ADVANTAGES
Sika-CNI is a corrosion-inhibiting admixture that provides protection against corrosion in reinforced concrete structures.
In the high alkalinity of concrete, reinforcing steel builds up a natural passivation layer. This layer protects the steel from corrosion. This passive ferric oxide layer however can be damaged by the presence of chlorides and combined with the presence of moisture and oxygen which will lead to corrosion of the steel. Sika-CNI will help oxidize the steel to form ferric oxide, which resists chloride attack. This reduces the areas of ferrous oxide ions that are susceptible to attack by chlorides. Ferrous oxide creates a ferrous oxide complex (rust), if attacked by chlorides. In the presence of these chlorides, rust continues to generate in these areas (corrosion pits) and ultimately leads to staining, cracking and spelling of the concrete. Sika-CNI fortifies the ferric oxide passivating layer prior to the penetration of chlorides. The nitrite ions in Sika-CNI will convert ferrous oxide to more resistant ferric oxide, thereby protecting the steel reinforcement from corroding
Sika-CNI extends the service life of reinforced concrete structures.
7.2 SIKATARD® R
SikaTard R is a liquid admixture developed for the control of cement hydration.
SikaTard R retards/stabilizes sand/cement masonry mortars and concrete mixes.
USE
SikaTard R is mainly used for the following applications:
- A wide range of applications where set retarding/stabilizing is requested
- In conjunction with Sikanol 118 to provide masonry mortars for laying brick/blocks manufactured from absorbent materials such as clay, sand-line and concrete.

7.5 SIKAPUMP®

USE
Sika Pump is recommended for use where concrete mixes with varying fines content, low cement content or, unsatisfactory aggregate grading with poor water retention lead to segregation during pumping and, result in extremely high pump pressures.
The use of Sika Pump facilitates that even secondary raw materials, such as aggregates derived from excavation or demolition work, may be utilized and concrete made with such aggregates, can be pumped without excessive energy demand.
CHARACTERISTICS AND ADVANTAGES
Sika Pump increases cohesion, plasticity as well as the “gliding“ ability of fresh concrete. Therefore, workability and above all the pumpability of difficult concrete mixes will be noticeably improved. Concrete pumping frequently interrupted by stoppages due to blocking of the pipes etc. can be avoided and the output increased.
Sika Pump helps to extend longevity of concrete pumps and pipes and reduce maintenance costs
7.6 SIKARAPID®-1
SikaRapid-1 is a new generation hardening accelerator for concrete and mortar. It increases the early strengths of concrete without negatively influencing final strengths.
Suitable for use in tropical and hot climatic conditions.
USE
SikaRapid-1 is used in ready mix concrete plants where extremely high requirements for early strengths of between 6-24 hours have to be met.
SikaRapid-1 does not contain any chlorides and can therefore be used without any reservations for reinforced as well as pre-stressed concrete. However, it should not be used in combination with expanding or shrinkage compensating admixtures.
CHARACTERISTICS AND ADVANTAGES
SikaRapid-1 is normally used in combination with a superplasticizer. The addition of SikaRapid-1 does not change the positive properties (e.g. fluidifying, stiffening behaviour etc.) of the superplasticizer.
Depending on the dosage of SikaRapid-1, an increase in early strengths during the first 24 hours of up to 100 % in comparison with normal Sikament concrete can be achieved. Depending on the brand of OPC/HPC used and the temperature of the fresh concrete, the effect may vary slightly.
It is sensible to combine SikaRapid-1 only with normal setting types of Sikament.
